Šime’s return sparks first win of the seasonA-Team coach Kruno Rimac and Hamilton Croatia legend Nediljko Simic shake hands at the Sveti Ante picnic in Norval.
Frank Perin — Last Friday marked the return of Hamilton Croatia’s legendary former midfielder Nediljko “Šime” Šimic, and the 44 year-old showed that he could still contribute by helping the team to their first victory of the season, 1-0 over Hamilton Polonia.
He started at the center-midfield position and controlled the play early, something the team had been lacking in previous games. And although he may have lost a step — barely — he still has the vision that the Hamilton fans came to appreciate years back.
His addition also allowed head coach Kruno Rimac to move Mike Domjancic to the stopper position, and the defence answered with a solid effort helping 18 year-old rookie goalie Zack Zeka get his first shutout of the season.
Jerko Grubisic notched the winner, his second goal of the season, in the 75th minute with a low shot from just inside the penalty area after a nice build-up down the right side of the field led by Mark Poklecki and substitute Marko Fuduric.
The team hopes to improve on this result this Friday, June 24th when they take on Dundas United A at Brian Timmis Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 9 p.m.
