Late game equalizers the theme of the weekendAntonijo Zupan battles a York player during Hamilton Croatia's home opener.
Hamilton Croatia were ready to celebrate their first home win at Brian Timmis Stadium Friday night when Courtney Dennis of York Region Shooters struck the equalizer at the 89th minute mark.
Hamilton took the lead at 70 minutes on a goal by Jamie Dodds, and it was almost enough until a shot by Dennis from 17 yards nicked the shoulder of Hamilton defender Adam Jurcic to be deflected past home team goalkeeper Cam McKay to go just under the bar.
On Sunday Kevin Omokhua gave the Lions the lead at 11 minutes at Victoria Park in Brampton. Jason Shannon tied it 1-1 for Hamilton Croatia at the 38th minute mark, the score at half-time.
Brampton took the lead 19 minutes into the second half on a penalty kick following a foul by Hamilton goalkeeper McKay. Lions’ Judah Hernandez scored from the spot for a 2-1 score at the 63rd minute mark.
Aidan O’Keefe tied the game for Hamilton at 88 minutes and the 2-2 score held to the final whistle.
Croatia also had plenty of near misses including a hit crossbar and goalpost, but they played hard until the final whistle to earn their third draw this year.
Next up is the Montreal Impact Academy who are in town for a Friday night tilt at Brian Timmis Stadium. Kickoff is 9 p.m.
