A quick overview of below and what is new with us lately.
The soccer season is in full swing and teams are preparing for the final stretch of their seasons, both competitive leagues and our house league for the little ones. The Super Sunday picnic this week (Aug 27) is the final session for our house league with trophy presentations and mini activities throughout the day!
The 60th banquet late last month was a blast and a fitting tribute for such a great accomplishment. Thanks to all of those who were able to attend. The donor wall to recognize many in our community is complete and available for viewing at any time in our main lobby. Make a point to go and see it the next time you are at GMR (pictures of the recognition wall is below). If I may be so bold, I think it looks great and hopefully captures the appreciation that this organization has for those who made such generous donations of both money and time.
We look forward to a busy ending of the summer and beginning of our fall season. I wanted to plug just a few of our main upcoming events which you will read more about below. First, our men’s team will again compete in this year’s Croatian North American Soccer Tournament (this year in Milwaukee) during the Labour Day weekend. Anyone still interested in a spot on the team bus, there are only a few spots (seriously) so please check with Frank Perin as soon as possible to see if they are still available.
As we enter September, we look forward to our Kotlovina Contest and our Annual Golf Tourney at Kings Forest. Stay tuned for more updates in next month’s Veza on the lineup of events for the final 4 months of the year.
We hope to see you all again soon at our park (this Sunday for lunch sounds like a great idea!)
Cheers!

60 — An Unforgettable Night!
As expected, the night dedicated to celebrate the 60th anniversary of our club was a huge success. Jim Zvonar Goes Coast to Coast for Mental Health
Hamilton Croatia’s Jim Zvonar has almost completed a remarkable and, for most of us anyway, unthinkable challenge. He recently set off to challenge himself to bike across Canada to raise money for mental health suicide awareness and prevention.
According to Jim’s recent update, he has made his way through the west coast and prairies, Ontario and the nation’s capital in Ottawa, cruised through mighty Quebec and is now facing his final stretch through Canada’s Atlantic provinces. The end is in sight Jim – keep going!
We know your beloved cycling team at Hamilton Croatia is looking forward to having you back, hearing first hand the stories from the road and to re-join them on their weekly rides.
We have been following Jim’s Canadian journey and progress intensely. He has maintained a blog while on his coast-to-coast route to allow all of us at home in even a small way to participate with him on this amazing journey. To read more about Jim’s challenge, and to consider sponsoring him as well, please visit www.cyclingc2c.ca.
Can’t wait for your return Jim!

Dinamo Coaching Developing Our Players
In our 60th anniversary year, as an executive, we planned to re-energize our youth soccer program and forge a new chapter in coaching development. For three weeks this summer, our organization had two Dinamo Zagreb coaches come to our club and work with our coaches and players non-stop. We held both in-class and on-field sessions where our coaches and players were involved in learning soccer – the Dinamo way.
Our coaches were able to interact, learn and develop with the help of the Dinamo coaches and carry forward the Dinamo concepts in their future training sessions. We look forward to a lasting partnership with the Dinamo coaches and anticipate welcoming them back next summer for continued education and development for the enhancement of the Hamilton Croatia soccer program.
We would like to thank all the coaches for investing the time to learn from some of the best professional coaches Dinamo has in their youth academy.
