Ice Rink 2015/16 Upgrades So, why are we talking about ice rinks when the temperature is still in the plus double digits?  Because before we know it we will be begging our neighbours with that fancy snow plow to come help clean our driveways! Before this happens, we want to notify members that have completely renovated both the size and quality of the ice rink. We have moved the location to a more convenient and open space.  The new rink will run along the end of the outdoor canopy which will allow better lighting and music for our skaters.  The ability to serve food and drinks from the back will also be much easier this year as a result of the location change. In addition to the location, we have increased the size of the skating surface area to 40 x 80 feet – a massive upgrade that will allow members of all ages to enjoy themselves.  There will be scheduled times for the very young and tiny members to skate in peace and learn to love the great Canadian pastime, as well as times more convenient for the “bigger” members where a stick and puck can be thrown on the rink for some mini hockey needs. Stay tuned for a grand opening event of the Ice Rink in the new year when the ice is ready.

Kotlovina – A look back You know what they say, sometimes it takes time for new ideas and events to stick and become a tradition.  Well, that isn’t the case here.  The Kotlovina cook-off will be an annual tradition (if not more frequent). Everyone worked hard that day – from the cooks who dabbled in each others’ creations to the hungry judges who worked tirelessly sampling the entire offering to cast their vote. Our centre turned into a culinary tour like no other. A huge thank you to all of our chefs as the food was delicious!  We have a few photos to share below (if you stare long enough you can smell how good this stuff was). Congrats to the top three vote getters: 1. Tommy Saic – seafood kotel with rice 2. Milan Radman – classic style (lost by 1 vote) 3. Brian Krlin – spicy sauce with rotini pasta Honourable mention goes out to the rest of the cooks: Club President Mark Vuksan, Janko Marsic, the Ciglenecki Crew, Vid Skrtic, and Dan Stajduhar Sr.

Stay tuned for next year’s date which will be announced shortly after the AGM on February 7th (Super Bowl Sunday).

Special mention to Vid Skrtic who has a Kotla larger than most children’s swimming pools!
