With the H&D Premier League title out of reach, the final game of the 2003 regular season between Hamilton Croatia and the Hamilton Serbs came down to a battle for pride. And the Croats emerged with their heads high. The A-Team and their game-day roster of 12-men staved off chance after chance until one blunder by the opposing keeper cost the Serbs. After a clearing attempt by the goalie hit his own defender in the back, Croatian forward Domer chased down the loose ball and placed it away in the empty net. Goalie Ante Culina helped hold the Croatia in the game, and collected the shutout and the 1-0 win as Mike ‘Binder’ Radencich moved to 3-0 as interim head coach. The victory helped Croatia clinch second place, and secured a first-round playoff bye. It was also their second win over the Hamilton Serbians this season. The Serbs only had three losses all season and finished only two points ahead of the A-Team. Croatia plays on Wednesday, October 1st at 8 p.m., against any one of the quarterfinalists, Slovenia, East Hamilton, Hamilton Star, or Brantford Polonia.
