Stare Lopte Edge the Outlaws at King’s

2011 HCGC Champs -- Stare Lopte

Frank Perin — The 13th Annual Hamilton Croatia Golf Classic was held Sunday, September 18 and for the third straight year more than 100 golfers participated.

After hosting the 2010 tournament at Mystic, the tournament returned to the more familiar King’s Forest Golf Club for an 8AM shotgun start.

The winning score in the better-ball format tourney was posted by team Stare Lopte — Tony Hlacar, Ilija Josipovic, Ian Ladd, and Reno Tofanovic — 10-under, one shot better than the Outlaws.

Other contests were also held throughout the course.

Two closest to the pin holes were won by Stephen Brckovic and Joe Zeleznak Sr., respectively, while the men’s longest drive was taken by Kreso Mitar, and women’s by Angie Bucko.

Watch Binder's trick shot!

One of the best highlights of the day was also caught on video — a double-stacked drive trick shot by Mike Radencic.

Lunch was held at The Centre, 166 Green Mountain Road, and the prize table was loaded with great gifts as usual.

Thanks to all the participants this year, and a special thanks to our tournament and hole sponsors, and all those that also donated prizes!

(PERNS) – Last night Team HRV brought the championship home where it belongs – in the arms of the Hamilton Croatia hockey team.

The undermanned HRV won convincingly over the feisty Blackhawks 7-1. With the final played on Easter Sunday some players had other obligations. “We all had family functions but HRV blood is thick, and it’s very important the guys who showed up”, said HRV centre Davo Stipancic.

Tomo Dragicevic could not have hand-picked a better day to break out of his scoring slump. He was the key factor all day as he tallied 8 goals in Sunday’s two games, including a hat-trick in the final. After the game, HRV players just wanted to thank Josipa for letting him play!

Netminder Johno Maras was his steady self and played an outstanding tournament. He played his finest in the game that mattered most, coming up with key saves at clutch moments of the final.

Davo and brother Jayzo Stipancic, Dano Ribaric and Victo Mair rounded out the scoring for the HRV who built up a 5-1 lead before adding two short-handed goals in the third.

And that wraps up another winter of the NERVE, the NERVE for HRV

Sunday, March 27th, 2005

(PERNS) – The GRHL Playoffs started yesterday and Team HRV picked up where they left off in the regular season…in winning form. They took the first game of their round robin match against the Blackhawks 6-3.

“The game was intense and as far as I’m concerned this looks as if it will be the championship match-up on Sunday”, said HRV forward Davo Stipancic.

Davo added, “Both teams certainly do not like each other. It will be an all out war Sunday with them if they end up in the finals. I strongly recommend the HRV faithful come and support – you don’t want to miss some good old hockey”.

HRV also won its second game of the day convincingly over the Fanatics. The 12-3 final ensured the Croats a spot in Sunday’s final against either the Blackhawks or Fanatics.

The HRV played a meaningless game this morning at 9 a.m. against the Predators. The Championship goes later this afternoon at 4:30 p.m.

Fans are more than welcome to support their only Croatian hockey team here from Hamilton, at the Peach King Center on Livingston Road in Grimsby. See ya at the rink.
