They Did It Again!

On Friday, April 7th the Hamilton Croatia’s men’s indoor league — the CISL — culminated with the Živko Cup. The previous week the top eight teams battled it out in the quarterfinals to reach the final night, in what has become the annual tradition of playing the semifinals and final in the same night. The games are always followed up with the post-season party at The Club.
Poskoci, 2017 Playoff Champions
Poskoci — the Snakes — 2017 Playoff Champions.
The two semifinals were tight affairs. On field one, the favoured Snakes, coming off another league title in which they finished 15-0-1, defeated fifth-seeded Holivud Hrvat 1-0 on a goal by Petar Gavran. The game was a classic goaltending duel between the other Gavran sibling, young phenom Luka, and grizzled veteran Frank Perin, with both netminders putting on a show for the fans with some point-blank saves. Field two featured the upset of the night as third-seed Vukovi scraped by Petrinamo, who many thought would be the Snakes biggest threat for the Cup. In the final, the Poskoci scored twice and defended well, but the Vukovi managed a late marker to tie the game 2-2. It then came back down to the goaltending of Gavran in the penalty shootout, as he stopped 2-of-3 en route to the victory. Honourable mention (because we don’t announce MVPs) goes to Poskoci midfielder Mark Poklecki who set-up two goals and was a stalwart on both sides of the ball throughout both the semifinal and championship game.
